Creating A Beautiful Home and Garden

When I purchased a home a few years ago, I had no idea what kind of workload I would be faced with. In addition to trying to figure out how to keep the place clean, I was also left with the challenge of tidying up the yard and keeping things trimmed. It was a little overwhelming, but I knew that I could do it with a little hard work and dedication. I started reading a lot of books and blogs about creating gorgeous things for your home and yard, and it was a great creative outlet. This blog is all about exciting, fun ways to make your home and yard even more beautiful.

What To Do If Your Sliding Glass Door Is Damaged

by Alyssa Perkins

Sliding glass doors are extremely popular in homes that have a patio, deck, or pool outside. Opening these doors allows you to end the space from your home to the outside area and enjoy the yard and outdoor living space. Still, if the door gets damaged in some way, you may need to call a door company that offers residential sliding door replacement services to come and assess the situation.

Broken Glass

The glass on most sliding doors is tempered glass, so it is very strong, but that does not mean it won't break. If the impact is hard enough, the glass will crack or break and leave dangerous shards behind. Often the glass is laminated, so there may still be one layer intact, but the glass is not typically replaced in layers.

Once the glass is cleaned up, put a piece of cardboard over the break and tape it to the door to avoid injuries from the sharp glass. You will need to call a residential sliding door replacement service so they can inspect the damage to determine the best way to fix it.

If the door is not too old, you may be able to replace the broken section and leave the rest of the door in place. If not, you will most likely need to replace the door with a new one. The door company can do the work for you, and you can choose from many door styles and designs for your home.

If you are considering an upgrade to a tinted glass or a set of french doors to replace the sliding doors, this is a good time to do it. Talk to the door company about all the options when you are considering new doors.

Installing A New Door

Residential sliding door replacement is straightforward if the new door is the same size as the old one. Once the door is ready, the door company will bring the new door to your home and then remove the old one for you. The trim will need to come off around the door to access the nails holding the old door in place.

Most sliding doors are prehung, so the frame is part of the assembly. Once the old door is out, the new door and frame can be positioned in the opening and secured to the home. The residential sling door replacement service will level the door to slide smoothly and reinstall the trim for you.

The door service can typically complete the entire door replacement in one day, and many door companies will take the old door and dispose of it for you if needed. The process is easy, but the cost of the new doors can vary by size, style, and features you choose for your new doors.
